In one breath

  • Every shared copy has Report: on the link’s own page, and in Noteshell, in the ··· menu above a copy you’re trying. That is the quickest way.
  • Or write to abuse@noteshell.io with the whole link.
  • A person reads every report within three days.

1. What a shared copy is

Someone who uses Noteshell can share a copy of a Build they made as a link, such as noteshell.link/…. Noteshell locks the copy on their computer before it leaves, with a key that lives only in the link’s last part, after the #. We keep the locked copy and can’t open it, so we can’t see what it holds unless someone who has the whole link shows us.

On the link’s page, press Report this link. In Noteshell, open the ··· menu above the copy you’re trying and press Report. Pick a reason. A report from either place proves that you hold the link without sending us its last part, and that is what lets three reports pause a link before we have looked.

No part of the copy travels with a report, so we decide from its title and what reporters tell us. In Noteshell you can also say you’d show us the copy; then write to abuse@noteshell.io with the whole link and we can open it and see what you saw.

3. Writing to us

For a notice that a shared copy is illegal, including a notice under the EU Digital Services Act, write to abuse@noteshell.io with:

  • the whole link, its last part too, so we can open the copy to judge it;
  • why you believe it is illegal, and where in the copy;
  • your name and email address (not needed for a notice about child sexual abuse material);
  • a statement that you believe in good faith that your notice is accurate and complete.

Your work, copied. If a shared copy uses work you own without your permission, write to the same address with the same details, what your work is, and a statement that you own it or act for whoever does. We treat it as a copyright notice.

Child sexual abuse material. Send the link without its last part: cut everything from the # on. We stop it and block the copy from being shared again without opening it, and report it to the authorities.

4. What we do

A person reads every report within three days. Three reports from different people who hold the link pause it until we look; nothing is removed by a count alone. When we stop a link, we tell the person who shared it why, in a statement of reasons that names what we did, the terms or law it rests on, and how to answer. We may also block the same copy from being shared again, and stop every link of an account that keeps sharing what our Terms forbid. If you wrote to us, we tell you what we decided.

Stopping a link stops anyone opening it after. It can’t reach a copy someone already added: that copy lives on their computer, not with us.

Answer the statement we sent you, or write to abuse@noteshell.io, and say why you think we got it wrong. A person looks again and tells you what they decided.

6. What a report keeps

We keep a report for 30 days: the link’s id, the reason, whether you said you’d show us the copy, and marks that tell reporters apart: one made from part of your internet address, and, from Noteshell, one for your account. Neither is your address or your name, and we keep no copy. A notice you email stays in our mailbox for as long as we need it to answer you and to show what we did.

Write to us

Reports go to abuse@noteshell.io, and a person reads every one. Our Terms say what may be shared, and our Privacy page says what we keep about a link.
